There had always been rumors about Santiago Martinez, with his perfectly tousled hair and unnecessary glasses, but today, the Woodchucks star made it official. He is a hipster. His admission sent shockwaves around the entire CML. While many fans seem to be supportive, one Woodchucks fan grumbled, “I can’t root for one of… those people. It’s just not natural.”
Martinez knew that his revelation would cause a controversy, but he felt that being true to himself was worth the hardship. “I couldn’t keep living a lie,” he says. “It was eating away at my soul. I was born a hipster; that’s just who I am. I hope people can accept that.”
George Wyatt, who came out as a hipster a couple years ago, has some advice for Martinez. “It gets better,” he says. “There’s a whole community of hipsters out there who can give him support and comfort.”
Thankfully, the reaction of his teammates and opponents has been overwhelmingly supportive. “I think it’s incredibly brave of him,” says Hebron’s Jake Lincoln. “Almost Jackie Robinson-esque.” “He should know that this doesn’t change the way we feel about him,” fellow Woodchuck Alex Furman says, as a single tear rolls down his cheek. “He will always be my teammate.”
